HALFMOON, N.Y. – Crews continue to clean up in Halfmoon after heavy rains cause damage in the town.
“It was just unbelievable how fast it was coming down,” resident Dana Gould said.
Gould had just come home from the dentist around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and water was already running across the road.
“Probably within at least an hour,” she said. “It was bad.”
“Last night we received a call from a resident that there was flooding in the area,” Town Supervisor Kevin Tollisen said. “I don’t think any flooding has occurred to the extent that it’s occurred now.”
Multiple crews were pumping out water to alleviate the flooding.
“We have a number of different things that we are doing to try and get the water out of here,” Tollisen said.
Gould said she had five and a half feet of water in her backyard at the height of the flooding. Other neighbors had it worse with cars underwater and belongings ruined.
Codi Heidt had his bedroom destroyed.
“It got like three feet deep, so it just lifted everything in my room up and just started floating it across the room,” he said.
He said cherished heirlooms were likely destroyed.
“Family valuables – things that have been passed down to me are probably damaged,” he said. “My family has lost everything that they need to get to work and back and stuff.”
“Neighbors have lost cars,” Gould said. “They’ve lost everything in those basements.”
Tollisen issued a State of Emergency for the town Thursday.
