We've been hearing a lot of buzz about a talking baby doll sold at Toys "R" Us. Some buyers say that instead of babbling, the baby is clearly cursing. So we went to the store, bought one for ourselves and checked it out.
FOX23 News played the toy for two walkers at The Crossings in Colonie.
"I heard that! Loud and clear. No mistaking it," they said.
"I think it did say b****," said Vince Prendergast of Troy.
"I did hear that. I wouldn't want that for my child, definitely not," said parent Denise Altschule.
The triplets sell for $39.99 plus tax, exclusively for Toys "R" Us. On their
Web site under customer reviews there are complaints from outraged parents across the country. The doll is rated 1.6 on average out of five stars.
The chain toy store's spokeswoman gave the following statement on the doll:
"The dolls are sold nationwide and we're not receiving widespread complaints. as with many talking dolls, what you're hearing is baby babble."
"I don't like that answer," Altschule said. "I'm sure the company didn't intend for it to sound like a swear word but they should change it or take it off the shelves."
