Members of Troop F lined the pathway, saluting as the flag draped casket of New York State Trooper David Lane made its way into the church.

Inside, Lane's mother, father, brother and fiance listened as condolences were offered and appreciation shared for Lane's service in both the United States Army and with the New York State Police.

Lane was on duty last Wednesday when he was killed in a car crash on Route 32 in the Town of Catskill. State police say the 30-year-old was passing another car when they made contact. Lane then went off the road and struck a utility pole. He died instantly.

During the service, Lane's uncle spoke of him as a star athlete growing up. His parents called him a blessing in their lives. And, fighting back tears, his brother called him his best man always.

As the pallbearers carried lanes casket down the steps, three-thousand troopers looked on, paying their final respects to a man they too called a brother.
