SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Saratoga Springs Police Department says five trophies on display were stolen during a smash-and-grab burglary at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs Thursday night.
The Saratoga Springs Police Department is currently investigating the alleged theft of the five trophies from the museum, on Union Avenue. Police responded to an alarm call around 11:36 p.m. and say the perpetrator has already fled the scene.
Police say entry was forced into the museum, and the person was inside for less than three minutes. The investigation is ongoing. Police say they have secured surveillance footage.
The trophies stolen are: 1903 Belmont Stakes Trophy, won by Africander;
1903 Brighton Cup Trophy, won by Hermis; 1905 Saratoga Special Trophy, won by Mohawk II; 1914 Brook Cup Handicap Steeplechase Trophy, won by Compliment; and 1923 Grand National Steeplechase Trophy, won by Sergeant Murphy.
