Tuesday monring, crews were called to the scene of a gas leak in Troy, in the area of Congress and Third Streets.
Fire crews at the scene say excavating crews working in the area pulled up a stump, which then pulled up part of a gas line.
We're told roots may have grown around the pipe.
Out of precaution, authorities evacuated five surrounding buildings.
They monitored the situation and let the gas dissipate, while National Grid came in with a backhoe.
The leak has now been capped, and the roads in that area are back open.
