TROY, N.Y. - Police are on the scene of Route 7 in Troy where a woman and her daughter were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.

Troy Police Captain Cooney says 19-year-old Sarah Bingham of 8th Street in Troy, and her child, 4-year-old Amy VanWert, were struck by the vehicle while crossing Hoosick Street at 10th Street at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperative with state police accident investigators, Cooney says.

Both the woman and child have been transported to Albany Medical Center. The child is said to be in critical condition but is expected to survive. Bingham's injuries appear to be less serious and she is in stable condition.

State Police were called in to assist as Hoosick Street, Route 7, is a state highway.

The accident is under investigation by State Police.

At this time, Route 7 eastbound is closed between 8th Street and 15th Street until further notice, westbound is reduced to one lane from 15th Street at 10th Street.
