Verdict upheld in case of drunk driver killing pregnant girlfriend

ALBANY, N.Y. – The NYS Appellate Division voted unanimously to uphold the Manslaughter verdict of a Colonie man.

Timothy Reichel, 31, was recklessly driving on October 29, 2010 on Lisha Kill Road when he crashed the vehicle into a tree.  The crash caused the vehicle to split in half.  The passenger, 21-year-old Crystal Van Epps was ejected from the car and later died from her injuries. She was Reichel's girlfriend and she was pregnant at the time of the accident.

Reichel was found to have a BAC twice the legal limit 2 ½ hours after the crash.

On October 21, 2011, Reichel was found guilty of Manslaughter in the 2ndDegree after a jury trial in Albany County Court.  He was sentenced to 7 ½ to 15 years in State Prison.
