Village remembers fire chief as friend

SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. – The wake for a local fireman who worked for the Schaghticoke Fire Department for 70 years will be held on Sunday.

William Moon passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 89. Moon was the Schaghticoke Fire Chief for just under 38 years. He also served as Battalion Chief for 20 years and Mayor of Schaghticoke for five years.

"He was a great firefighter, he was a great chief, and he was a great friend," said Schaghticoke Fire Department President and 1st Assistant Chief John Demars.

Moon is survived by his children, grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

The wake will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chase Funeral Home.

The funeral will be held Money at 9 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church.
