The smashed up tour bus was on it's way to Boston when it hit ice on the Thruway and ended up in a ditch. Members of the Rock Band Weezer were on board.
Lead singer Rivers Cuomo, and his assistant were both taken to Saint Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with minor injuries. The bus, was towed to Roosevelt's garage in Canajoharie. Tonight the owner described the scene for us, over the phone.
"They were taking most of the people out the back window and most of them were sitting there talking they didn't look too serious," said Warren Roosevelt Jr.
The whole time, he didn't even realize who was on board.
"Until we were done with this job- I knew it was a rock 'n roll band -but to what level I had no idea," said Roosevelt.
Police said the bus skidded across the median, back across the east bound lanes and through the guardrail. A band member's Twitter page described that ditch as six feet deep. Tonight, Cuomo's status is not known, but a spokesperson for Saint Mary's said he was treated in the emergency room, then taken by ambulance to another facility for further evaluation. From the looks of the bus, Roosevelt said it could have been much worse.
"If you can imagine these band members were sleeping in bed, they weren't wearing seat belts so I'm sure they took a terrible ride and they were very lucky," said Roosevelt.
He also said that the band had hotel reservations for tonight in Boston, that's where they planned to re-group.
Tonight, the driver of the bus is not facing any charges. And there is no indication on the band's website that tomorrow night's show at Boston University is cancelled.
