SCHENECTADY N.Y. - The Union Dutchmen's Hockey team came home to a greeting fit for champions, after winning the national title Saturday evening.

Being a school with only 2,000 kids, the men's hockey team showed it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.

Fans and the community are elated. Stephen Ainlay, the President on Union College said he couldn't be more proud.

Head coach Rick Bennett stated only time will tell what effect winning the National Championship title will have.

The coach continued, mentioning previous success, "we went to the frozen four a couple years ago. People thought it was really going to help recruiting. But I just think in today's economy, being a financial aid school, sometimes it really works for you and sometimes it doesn't."

"Anyone can do it. You get the right players, the right coaching staff and if the school's behind you, anyone can do it." Said Union Hockey teams Captain Mat Bodie.

One piece that Captain Bodie did not account for was the Union hockey team's youngest fan, NEWS10 ABC's Nicol Lally's newborn son.

Nicol Lally, proud coach's wife said, "he was due right around here. We knew it was going to be close and then he got here April 1. He's been the good luck charm and it's been so fun to have him here. And Jason will be able to tell him about it. That he was 12 days old and it's just been great."

Union defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere said, if people didn't know where Schenectady was on the map before, they certainly know now.
