ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A woman who used a knife and hammer to kill her 22-year-old son in their Albany County apartment last year has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison.
Local media outlets report that 53-year-old Tracey Zetzsche was sentenced Friday in Albany County Court, where she pleaded guilty in September to first-degree manslaughter.
Authorities say Zetzsche stabbed Gabriel Philby-Zetzche multiple times and hit him in the head with a hammer more than 20 times inside their apartment in rural Westerlo. Police said his body was found by his aunt on July 30, 2012, five days after he was killed.
The son had cerebral palsy. Psychological experts involved in the case said his mother had amnesia about the killing.
