ALBANY N.Y. - Prosecutors have been calling in witnesses to testify before the courtroom for the past two days in the Joe Bruno trial.
Yesterday's testimony focused on Wayne Barr, a former business associate of Joe Bruno.
Barr was a partner in some of the companies that hired Bruno as a consultant. He had close ties to the Loudonville business man Jared Abbruzzese who is accused of arranging the job for Bruno.
Prosecutors say it amounted to a kickback scheme or bribe. The senator was allegedly paid 20-thousand dollars a month, and in return he would help those companies get more state money.
Barr testified he did not know what work Bruno did. After the payments began, the senator nominated Barr to be appointed to the NYRA Board.
Bruno's attorneys say the payments were consulting fees only.
It has been five years since Bruno was acquitted from his first conviction which was overturned in the Supreme Court.
Day four of this trial will continue with the prosecution calling more witnesses.
The judge is expecting the trial to last at least two weeks.
