BOSTON (AP) — The annual Boston Pops Fourth of July concert and fireworks show has been moved up a day because of potential heavy rain ahead of Hurricane Arthur.

Organizers and public safety officials say the celebration is being rescheduled for Thursday, what appears to be the best of two potential bad weather days. Arthur is expected to pass well east of New England over the weekend.

State Police Col. Timothy Alben says security arrangements are ready to go since the public rehearsal would have been held Thursday night anyway. He says the performance could be cancelled Thursday if the weather isn't safe.

The performance takes place in the Hatch Shell along the Charles River Esplanade. Fireworks are set off from barges on the river. Thousands of people usually attend.
