NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — An 84-year-old Catholic nun who recently broke into a nuclear weapons complex in Tennessee with two activists was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday.
The sentenced was handed down on Tuesday afternoon after the judge heard arguments from both sides on the matter.
Police said the three broke into a facility and actually reached a storage bunker that holds the nation's primary supply of bomb-grade uranium.
Their attorneys argued that they should only be sentenced to time served, approximately nine months, because of their record of goodwill throughout their lives.
The nun's co-conspirators face between six and nine years in prison.
