HONOLULU (AP) — The family of one of the women who died in a fatal Lanai plane crash said she was originally from Canada and pursued a longtime dream to live in Hawaii.
Kathleen Kern's family released a statement through the Hawaii Department of Health Friday saying she was one of the three who died in the crash. The pilot and two other Maui County employees were killed, while three other Maui employees were injured. Authorities have not released their names.
A health department spokeswoman said she was asked to deliver the statement because Kern's sister-in-law is a retired department employee.
According to the statement, 50-year-old Kern was born in Vancouver and moved to Hawaii in 2009 to work for the Maui planning department. Her family said she had a passion for urban planning.
