Lockport, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man tearfully apologized to a slain college student's family before being sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the killing.
Cordero Gibson of Niagara Falls said he probably wouldn't have been in Niagara County Court Wednesday had he not abused drugs and alcohol.
He pleaded guilty earlier to manslaughter in the shooting death of 21-year-old Niagara University student Brandon Johnson of Rochester. Johnson was shot during a robbery at a Niagara Falls apartment in December.
An 18-year-old co-defendant, Gordon Jackson, is serving a sentence of up to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder. Authorities say Jackson was the shooter.
