Midland City, Ala. - Praise is streaming for the rescuers of a boy in Alabama taken nearly a week ago and held hostage in a bunker.
“It's a relief for us to be able to reunite a mother with her child,” said Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson.
FBI agents stormed the bunker where 65-year-old Jimmy Dykes held the boy hostage.
Negotiations had deteriorated and investigators say footage from a high-tech camera they sneaked inside the bunker made them fear the 5-year-old boy, Ethan, might be hurt.
Agents raided the bunker, rescuing the boy and leaving Dykes dead.
Ethan was checked out at a hospital and is said to be physically fine.
He will celebrate his sixth birthday with his family tomorrow.
