Canisteo, N.Y.- State police say they're investigating the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl while she slept in her home in Steuben County.
In a press briefing Tuesday, troopers said a man, wearing a baseball cap, illegally entered an unlocked home on East Main Street in Canisteo around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police say the suspect went into an upstairs bedroom and removed the girl from her bed.
The suspect carried the girl down the stairs and headed for a door, but for some unknown reason left the home without taking the girl. The child was not hurt.
Police think this incident was random but they have no reason to believe anyone else is in danger.
