Buffalo, N.Y. - The FBI claims a Buffalo-area reverend and lawyer approached Congresswoman Kathy Hochul's campaign to convince her husband to drop a criminal case.

James Lagona was recently convicted of bilking people out of thousands of dollars in a ponzi scheme.

While Lagona awaited sentencing, FBI agents claim he approached a Hochul Congressional re-election staffer, and promised he could help her win over undecided voters. In exchange for that, he asked that she convince her husband, U.S. Attorney Bill Hochul, to drop all charges against him in that criminal case.

Lagona is now back behind bars facing an obstructing justice charge.
