Albany/Washington/Webster, N.Y. - President Obama is being urged by Senator Chuck Schumer to promptly review the request for the four Webster Firefighters who were attacked by a gunman on Christmas Eve--to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Over 25,000 people from across the nation have signed the petition requesting that these first responders receive this medal.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award in the United States.

Schumer spoke of the sacrifice the volunteer firefighters made.

“Lt. Chiaperini, Firefighter Kaczowka, Firefighter Hofstetter and Firefighter Scardino will forever be known as local heroes in Monroe County,” Schumer said. “What happened on Christmas Eve was a heart-wrenching tragedy that not only affected the Webster community but people from all across the nation.”
