Rochester, N.Y.- Jury selection started Monday in a trial for two people charged in the death of a Fairport High School teacher who was hit by their vehicles while she rode her bicycle.
Both Mark Scerbo and Megan Merkel will be on trial at the same time but it will involve two separate juries, one for each defendant.
The charges against the 23-year-old Scerbo and 24-year-old Merkel include manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
Police say 40-year-old Heather Boyum of Perinton was riding her bike along a road in Penfield last July 29 when she was hit by Scerbo's motorcycle. Boyum was thrown into the road and into the path of a car driven by Meghan Merkel.
Jury selection could last two weeks before testimony begins.
