Greece, N.Y. - Money from the U.S. Forest Service will help replace 200 trees in Greece that were destroyed by emerald ash borers.
The nearly $78,000 federal grant is part of the Great Lakes Restoration initiative. The service gave more than $3 million to improvement projects near the Great Lakes.
Last year, the pesky beetle ate its way through trees in Greece, Pittsford, Chili, Rochester and across the state.
Some of the money will also be used to slow storm water runoff into Lake Ontario.
Other projects include $250,000 for Detroit-area reforestation led by the nonprofit The Greening of Detroit and $250,000 for tree planting in Flint at the site of General Motors' former "Chevy in the Hole" complex.
