GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Glens Falls will have a new team to root for.

The Glens Falls Civic Center was built 35 years ago to house the Adirondack Red Wings. Many people in the area are still Red Wings fans and that same devotion was applied to the Phantoms for the last five years.

The AHL Board of Governors officially approved the relocation of the Abbotsford Heat to Glens Falls Monday. The Calgary Flames farm team struggled in the attendance the current season.

There has always been a high interest to keep an AHL team in the market and Flames General Manager Brad Treliving picked up on the enthusiasm Glens Falls has for hockey.

The contract has not been signed, yet, but Treliving said in a statement “We look forward to finalizing details and beginning this new partnership.”
