SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Monday was the last day at the Saratoga Race Course, but the Grade One Hopeful has many looking forward to next year.
The stakes held some of the best two-year-olds on the dirt, including next year’s possible Kentucky Derby winner or Travers champion.
Trainer Todd Pletcher always seemed to have some of the best juveniles at the Spa. The heavily favored Competitive Edge was no different as he lived up to the hype Monday cruising to a five-and-three quarter length victory.
The horse is now two-for-two in his career, and Pletcher claimed his 11th Saratoga Training title this summer.
“The thing that’s really cool for us is he’s the son of Super Save and Super Saver’s our Derby winner,” he said. “And to see him getting off to such a good start as stud, to have a hopeful winner in his first crop – you know, it’s kind of extra special for us to have a son of Super Saver do that.”
