TROY, N.Y. – Former Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno was honored at the ValleyCats game Monday.

Joe Bruno stadium opened 12 years ago and has hosted more than 1.6 million ValleyCats fans. Bruno helped secure the funds to build stadium and was the guest of honor Monday throwing out the opening pitch.

Bruno was worried he’d be short, but the ball made it over the plate. Bruno later said he was relieved, but he had nerves standing on the mound.

“There are always butterflies,” he said. “I haven’t done this in three years, but it’s such a pleasure. This truly is a champion’s team. Bill Gladstone’s a champ, and the fans here are the biggest champs in the whole world, so I’m just grateful to be here.”
