Over the weekend, three locals saw their dream of being selected in the MLB draft come true. It was a particularly special weekend for the Remillard family who have now had 2 family members drafted to the majors in the past two years.
Monday afternoon, Will Remillard, who was selected in the 19th round of the MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs, sat on the couch of his home in Clifton Park next to his brother Zach, who was drafted a year ago in the 38th round by the Houston Astros.
"I've been dreaming about this since I started which was probably when I was five or six years old," explained Will. To have the opportunity to get drafted and play professional baseball has always been a goal of mine."
It's a big moment," said Zach. "Going through it last year, I know how exciting it is."
The two are teammates at Coastal Carolina and played together last summer with the Albany Dutchmen. While they know what it's like to play together, they hope to one day be playing against each other for their major league team.
For now, Zach plans to continue to support his brother as he pursues his dream.
"He's always had a good work ethic and kept his head in the game, so just continuing to keep that and strive for better things," said Zach.
"I'm heading to the Cape Cod League to play and I’m sure the Cubs will be there so I’ll just play for now and whatever happens after that happens." said Will.
