TROY, N.Y. – Curby’s Three-Style Wrestling Club in Troy offers a unique opportunity for middle and high school wrestlers to train in both freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling.
Right in the heart of downtown Troy sits the perfect business for Joe and Ashley Uccellini or Brunswick. Down the stairs of 251 River Street are wrestlers of all ages rolling around on mats.
“We have an Olympic-style wrestling club,” Joe said. “We also do folk style, but we do that in the fall. For this season, we are the only club four days a week that’s dedicated to both Greco and freestyle.”
Joe’s wife, Ashley, also runs her massage therapy business in a room connected to the club helping wrestlers and other athletes recover.
“Just helping the muscles recover faster, giving them a little bit of a step up above other people that don’t use massage as part of their training,” she said.
The business continues to grow every week, but the Uccellinis were operating out of their house until February 2014.
“It was kind of overwhelming at times,” Ashley said. “There’d be quite a few kids in our basement, and then I’d be taking people in for massages, so it didn’t feel like home.”
The Uccellinis heard about their new space through a friend, and named it the Curby Cave after Joe’s good friend, Jake, who died in 2010.
