Section II is sending four teams to the high school softball state semifinals on Saturday at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury. Of the four teams making the trip, Troy is the only team heading to the final four for the first time.

In fact, the Lady Flying Horses had never won a state tournament game until this season.

"Feels amazing that we've made history especially as a senior because it's the best way to go out,” said senior outfielder Ally Luscier.

The girls are hoping the journey doesn’t end here though, because two more wins and they will become the first team in Troy softball history to win a state title. First, they have to get by defending Class A state champions, Sayville.

“They're a tough team, it looks like they have hitters from one through nine,” said head coach George Rafferty. “It's going to be a tough challenge but we're up for the challenge and I think we might be a similar team, so I think it's going to be a tough game"

The Lady Flying Horses have been in a number of tough games but the semifinals and finals, if they advance to that point, will prove to be the biggest test for the team.

“Our team is good in every single position, our outfield is good, our infield is good, catching pitching our hitting is really good we're just all around a good team,” said Luscier.

"We've just been working hard daily, everyday we just keep pushing ourselves to be the winners that we are,” said senior first baseman Adrian Shufelt.

Troy will take on Sayville Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the Adirondack Sports Complex on field on Field 3.
