Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs have acquired catcher George Kottaras from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for cash considerations.
Kottaras spent only the 2013 season with Kansas City and batted .180 with five homers and 12 RBI in 46 games. He is expected to be the backup to Welington Castillo with the Cubs.
The 30-year-old Ontario native has a career average of .214 with 29 homers and 96 RBI in 295 games over six seasons with Boston, Milwaukee, Oakland and Kansas City. He has never played more than 85 games in a season.
