Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Prized pitching prospects Michael Wacha and Carlos Martinez were two of six players brought up from the minor leagues by the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

Wacha, rated the Cardinals' No. 2 overall prospect by MLB.com, will draw the starting assignment for the club's key matchup with NL Central-rival Cincinnati on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old has made four starts and six relief appearances for St. Louis earlier this season, producing a 2-0 record with a 3.78 earned run average. Wacha had been optioned to Double-A Springfield last Thursday, one day after striking out a career-best seven over four scoreless innings out of the bullpen against the Reds.

Martinez, listed third on St. Louis' top 10 prospects list by Baseball America in the preseason, was also recalled from Springfield along with left-hander Tyler Lyons. In addition, the Cardinals promoted first baseman Brock Peterson, infielder Ryan Jackson, catcher Audry Perez and outfielder Adron Chambers from Triple-A Memphis.

Catcher Tony Cruz, who has been sidelined since Aug. 14 due to a stress fracture in his left forearm, was activated from the 15-day disabled list as well prior to Tuesday's contest.

Peterson currently leads the Pacific Coast League with 25 home runs and a .531 slugging percentage, and hit .296 with 84 RBI over 122 games with the Redbirds.

Lyons has started eight games for the Cardinals in 2013 and compiled a 2-4 record with a 4.73 ERA over nine overall major league appearances.

Martinez pitched in 12 games, including one start, with St. Louis earlier this season and went 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA.
