Recap: Boston vs. LA Angels

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - David Ortiz hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs as the Boston Red Sox took a 7-2 win over the LA Angels of Anaheim to earn a split of a day/night doubleheader.

Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Jonny Gomes scored twice for the Red Sox, who snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Angels.

Boston starter Clay Buchholz (9-0) pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up just two runs on six hits, but did leave the game in the seventh with a neck injury.

Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo each drove in a run for the Angels, who have lost six of eight. C.J. Wilson (4-5) was tagged for four runs on eight hits with three walks in just five innings of work.

In the earlier game on Saturday, Trout went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored as the LA Angels of Anaheim took a 9-5 win.

In the nightcap, Shane Victorino, activated off the disabled list prior to the game, led off the contest with a single and back-to-back doubles from Gomes and Pedroia made it a 2-0 game.

In the second, Ortiz punched a one-run double to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.

The Angels got one back in the third as Hank Conger led off with a double, moved to third on Erick Aybar's groundout and crossed the plate thanks to a single from Trout to make it a 3-1 contest.

Boston, though, got the run back in the fifth thanks to an RBI single off the bat of David Ross.

Josh Hamilton doubled to start the LA sixth and took third on a groundout from Albert Pujols. Trumbo then lofted a sac fly to left to score Hamilton and make it a 4-2 game.

The Red Sox again had an answer in the bottom of the sixth as Pedroia singled home Jose Iglesias with two outs and Ortiz followed with his 12th homer of the season for a 7-2 advantage.

Game Notes

Victorino had been out since May 20 with a strained left hamstring. To make room on the roster, the team sent outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to Triple-A Pawtucket ... Wilson has lost two straight starts and five of his last six decisions ... The Angels stranded six men on base while Boston left 10.
