Recap: San Francisco vs. Atlanta

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco Giants tagged Gavin Floyd for three runs in the seventh inning to get by the Atlanta Braves, 4-2, in the opener of their three-game series.

Floyd and Tim Lincecum had each surrendered just one run through six innings before Tyler Colvin tripled in a pair of runs and scored on a Brandon Hicks single to break a 1-1 tie.

Colvin, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday, hit a solo homer earlier in the game, while Lincecum (3-2) was in vintage form, striking out 11 and allowing only two hits and four walks over 7 2/3 innings.

"It was vintage Timmy the way he had his good secondary pitches going along with his fastball," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

The Giants are riding an impressive 14-4 stretch and opened a seven-game homestand against a Braves club that had won four of five coming in.

Floyd (0-1) was stingy in his second start of the season prior to the pivotal seventh, which began with a single and an error in front of Colvin.

Colvin sent one down the first-base line that rolled into the corner, allowing Hector Sanchez and Brandon Crawford to score without a play at the plate.

Hicks added some insurance with a base hit to center, and after Freddie Freeman took Javier Lopez deep to right in the ninth to pull Atlanta within 4-2, Sergio Romo retired the next three to post his 13th save.

B.J. Upton answered Colvin's second-inning homer with a solo blast in the fifth, but two innings later, Upton got greedy and was caught trying to steal third with one out. He was originally ruled safe, but the call was overturned on replay and the Braves' rally was thwarted.

"I still thought I was safe," Upton said.
