St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed pitcher Matt Moore on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with left elbow soreness.

Moore last pitched on Sunday against the Yankees. He surrendered five runs on eight hits over five frames.

The 24-year-old southpaw is 14-3 with a 3.41 ERA in 21 starts this season, including a shutout against the Red Sox on July 22. His victory total is tied for second in the American League, one behind Detroit's Max Scherzer.

"The goal is to be healthy for the last month and a half. ..I'm very optimistic," said Moore on the Rays' Twitter account.

The Rays recalled infielder Ryan Roberts from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. The 32-year-old veteran played in 51 games for Tampa Bay earlier in the season, batting .248 with five home runs and 17 RBI.
