Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Panthers re-signed quarterback Derek Anderson to a two-year deal on Friday.

Anderson will serve his fourth year as Cam Newton's backup. He appeared in four games last season, but did not attempt a pass.

The nine-year veteran was initially drafted by Baltimore in 2005. Anderson's best season came in 2007 with the Cleveland Browns, when he completed 298- of-527 passes for 3,787 yards, 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions to earn his lone Pro Bowl appearance. He spent a season with the Arizona Cardinals in 2010 before first signing with Carolina.

The Panthers also signed free agent tight end Mike McNeill to a two-year deal. The three-year pro appeared in 28 games over the past two seasons with St. Louis, where he recorded five catches for 36 yards.
