Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that defensive end Frank Alexander has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2014 regular season for violating the NFL policy and program for substances of abuse.

Alexander will be eligible to return to the Panthers' active roster on Monday, Sept. 29 following the team's game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 28.

The 24-year-old Alexander had 15 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery and two passes defensed in 12 games (three starts) last season.
