St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Two days after losing goaltender Niklas Backstrom with an injury, the Minnesota Wild recalled goaltender Johan Gustafsson on Friday.

Backstrom left Wednesday's game against Toronto after a first-period collision with Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri, who was fined and suspended three games for the collision on Thursday.

Kadri crashed the net and made contact to the head of a defenseless Backstrom. The Minnesota netminder was motionless on the ice for a few seconds before getting up and staying in the game for a few more minutes.

Following the game, the Wild announced on their Twitter account that Backstrom suffered an upper-body injury. The Wild have not updated Backstrom's injury status since.

Backstrom was in net instead of starter Josh Harding, who was feeling ill.

Gustafsson, who has not appeared in an NHL game in his career, was 3-1-0 with a 2.45 goals-against average (GAA), a .920 save percentage and one shutout in five games with Iowa (AHL) this season.
