New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Teenage San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl has been named the NHL's top rookie for the month of October.
Hertl, the 17th overall pick in the 2012 draft, led all rookies with eight goals and 11 points in 13 games.
The 19-year-old gained national attention following his four-goal performance Oct. 8 versus the New York Rangers. He became the fourth-youngest player -- and youngest since Jimmy Carson on March 30, 1988 -- to score four goals in a game.
Others considered for the honor were Calgary Flames center Sean Monahan, Edmonton Oilers center Mark Arcobello, Dallas Stars right wing Alex Chiasson, Nashville Predators defenseman Seth Jones and Anaheim Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen.
