Recap: Montreal vs. Winnipeg

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Carey Price made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Montreal Canadiens snapped the Winnipeg Jets' eight-game point streak with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday.

Tomas Plekanec, Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk lit the lamp for the Canadiens, who have won three in a row.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 24-of-26 shots for the Jets, who had gone 6-0-2 since a regulation loss to Tampa Bay on Oct. 24.

"We didn't get enough pucks to the net early, and I don't mean [early] in the game. I mean early in our chances, early in our decisions to get it to the net," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "We passed off probably too much and then it got knocked down or blocked."

Eller gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead at the 2:21 mark of the second period. Jiri Sekac drove hard to the net and Pavelec poked the puck right to Eller, who backhanded the disc into an open net.

Galchenyuk made it 2-0 at 7:47 of the third when he scored from the slot. Tom Gilbert's shot from the top of the right circle hit traffic in front and Galchenyuk found the loose puck.

Plekanec scored a short-handed goal into an empty net with 36.7 seconds remaining.

Prior to Plekanec's goal, Winnipeg forward Evander Kane had a shot at a wide- open net, but Andrei Markov deflected it over the goal to preserve Price's 26th career shutout.

"That was big for me, personally. [Markov] never gave up on the play and found a way to get his stick on it," Price said.

Game Notes

Prior to the game, the Canadiens acquired defenseman Sergei Gonchar from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Travis Moen ...
