Recap: Washington vs. New Jersey

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Cory Schneider made 30 saves to backstop the visiting New Jersey Devils to a 1-0 win over the Washington Capitals on Friday.

Schneider, who was pulled after giving up five goals in a 6-2 loss in the Devils' last trip to Verizon Center on Oct. 16, registered his first shutout of the season and 13th of his career.

Mike Cammalleri supplied the lone goal as New Jersey won its second straight after a four-game slide.

"I thought that was a real solid 60 minute effort," said New Jersey head coach Peter DeBoer. "Our goaltender was excellent; penalty kill was very good, that's more along the lines of our identity as a team."

The loss snapped Washington's win streak at three games.

Braden Holtby played well in defeat, making 27 saves, but it was his giveaway that led to the Cammalleri tally. Holtby played the puck behind his net and misfired on his pass. The puck went right to Cammalleri at the bottom of the right circle and he scored into an open net at 9:38 of the third period.

"We were trying to limit their chances," said Washington defenseman Karl Alzner. "They were doing a good job of limiting ours, and that is usually how those things end up. Either an unlucky bounce, a good play, or something like that."

Game Notes

The Devils ended a four-game road losing streak ...Washington was 0-for-4 on the power play. New Jersey entered the game last in the league in penalty killing.
