The playoff lasted just one hole, as Ernst knocked his approach within 14 feet after Lynn dumped his second shot in a greenside bunker.
Lynn then blasted past the green and chipped his par effort to eight feet before Ernst 2-putted for par and his first career win on the PGA Tour.
Ernst will return this year and will try to become the first multiple winner of the tournament. He will play against a field that includes 10 of the top 30 players in the world.
Among that group is Phil Mickelson, who will be making his first start since missing the cut at the Masters as he prepares for The Players Championship next week.
Also in the field will be Justin Rose, Ernie Els and Charlotte residents Webb Simpson, Brendon de Jonge, Robert Karlsson, Martin Laird and Johnson Wagner. Els is playing in the event for the first time since 2007.
Golf Channel will have full television coverage the first two days and early on the weekend before handing off to CBS for the afternoon.
The PGA Tour moves to Florida next week for the aforementioned Players Championship, which Tiger Woods won for the second time last year. Woods will not be able to defend his title as he is still recovering from back surgery.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP AT LAGUNA NATIONAL, Laguna National Golf and Country Club, Tampines, Singapore -- The European Tour concludes its Asian swing this week with the Championship at Luguna National in Singapore.
Formerly known as the Ballantine's Championship, the event was moved from South Korea this year due to staging issues.
Brett Rumford eagled the first playoff hole to defeat Marcus Fraser and Peter Whiteford and collect his fourth career win on the European Tour at Blackstone Golf Course last year.
Rumford had squandered a 2-stroke lead over the final two holes before emerging victorious from the three-man playoff with a 6-foot eagle putt.
Rumford returns to defend his title against a field that includes former tournament winners Graeme McDowell, Thongchai Jaidee and Marcus Fraser.
The event will be co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and will also include previous winners at Laguna National Golf and Country Club Colin Montgomerie, Nick Dougherty, Arjun Atwal, Lian-wei Zhang, Wen-chong Liang and Singapore's own Mardan Mamat.
Golf Channel will have television coverage of all four rounds.
The European Tour travels to Madeira next week for the Madeira Islands Open, where Peter Uihlein carded a 4-under 68 in final round last year to claim a 2- stroke victory.
NORTH TEXAS LPGA SHOOTOUT, Las Colinas Country Club, Irving, Texas -- The LPGA Tour moves to Texas this week for the North Texas LPGA Shootout at Las Colinas Country Club.
Inbee Park birdied the final hole at the inaugural event in 2013 to hold off overnight leader Carlota Ciganda and win by a single stroke. It was Park's third victory of the season and sixth LPGA title overall.
Park returns this week as she seeks her first win of the season. Although she does not have a victory, she has placed inside the top 10 in six of her seven starts of the season.
The one time she did not place inside the top 10 was when she ended in 38th place at the first major of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
The world No. 1 will seek to defend her title against a field that includes six of the other top-10 players in the world.
Golf Channel will have coverage of all four rounds.
The tour will have off next week before moving east to Virginia for the Kingsmill Championship. Cristie Kerr parred the second playoff hole last year to top Suzann Pettersen and win the event for the third time.
INSPERITY INVITATIONAL, The Woodlands Country Club, The Woodlands, Texas -- The Champions Tour is also in Texas this week for the Insperity Invitational.
Last year, Esteban Toledo parred the third playoff hole to defeat Gene Sauers and Mike Goodes, and capture his first career victory on the Champions Tour.
After Sauers was eliminated with a bogey at the second extra hole, Toledo 2- putted for par and the win as Goodes missed a 6-foot par effort.
Toledo will try to join Bernhard Langer as the only players to win consecutive Insperity Invitationals. Langer won the title here in 2007 and 2008.
Also playing this week will be World Golf Hall of Fame members Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd, Tony Jacklin and Johnny Miller.
Golf Channel will have coverage of all three rounds.
The Champions Tour will return in two weeks with the first major of the season, the Regions Tradition. David Frost earned his second victory of the season and first major championship victory on either the PGA or Champions Tour when he defeated Fred Couples by a shot last year.
SOUTH GEORGIA CLASSIC, Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, Valdosta, Georgia -- The Web.com Tour is in Georgia this week for the South Georgia Classic.

Carlos Ortiz will be in the field this week as he tries to earn his immediate promotion to the PGA with his third win of the season. He also captured the titles at the Panama Claro Championship and El Bosque Mexico Championship.
