Dubai, United Arab Emirates (SportsNetwork.com) - The European Tour announced changes to the Race to Dubai on Monday.

The bonus pool has moved to $5 million, an increase of $1.25 million for last year. That larger purse will now be broken down among the top 15 finishers in the Race to Dubai. Last year, only the top 10 were eligible for the bonus money.

The tour will also no longer enforce the requirement for players to participate in a minimum number of finals series events. However, players must meet the minimum number of tour events throughout the season to be eligible.

Additionally, the field for the DP World Tour Championship will take the leading 60 available players instead of just those ranked in the top 60.

"The new regulations and the new points system are a good move. It means if you miss some of those events, it will be difficult to win The Race to Dubai, so there is an incentive to play in as many Final Series events as possible," said Thomas Bjorn, who is the chairman of the Tournament Committee. "The goal for us was to get the top players to play in the Final Series and this will hopefully help do that."

Finally, the prize money in the Race to Dubai will be converted to points. Each Finals Series event will award 10 million points with the winner earning 1,666,600 points.

Another change announced Monday is for the qualification to the WGC-HSBC Champions. There were 20 spots held for European Tour winners, but that number will drop to 10, while the number of spots held from the Race to Dubai standings climbs from five to 15.
