Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - Georgia Southern fired head men's basketball coach Charlton "C.Y." Young after four seasons on Tuesday.

The Eagles finished 14-19 overall and went 7-11 in Southern Conference play. Their season came to an end with Saturday's loss in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament.

"Charlton Young represents Georgia Southern with the utmost character. He has done a tremendous job with taking a program that had some trouble when he arrived and getting it to a level of respectability," said athletic director Tom Kleinlein. "At the same time, I felt where we needed to go is beyond where we are at right now and that a change in leadership is necessary."

Young compiled a 48-34 record in four seasons with the Eagles, including a 26-46 mark in conference games.

A former three-time all-conference player at Georgia Southern, Young took over a program in 2009 that faced two years of NCAA probation.
