Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies signed head coach Dave Joerger to a contract extension, owner Robert Pera confirmed on Tuesday.

Joerger, who spent six seasons as a Grizzlies assistant before being named the 12th head coach in franchise history prior to last year, led Memphis to a playoff berth despite a slew of injuries. Memphis pushed Oklahoma City to the brink in an opening round playoff series, eventually falling in seven games.

Per team policy, terms of the extension were not released.

The news comes less than a week after Joerger interviewed with the Minnesota Timberwolves for their coaching vacancy. Joerger was reportedly offered the job by Minnesota, but ultimately turned it down.

"Following an open and honest dialogue with Dave, it became clear that Dave was fully committed to Memphis and we are committed to him," Pera said.

Joerger became the first head coach to win multiple Western Conference Coach of the Month awards in his first season and had more wins than any of the other 10 first-year coaches in 2013-14.

"I look forward to building on the success we experienced this year with our core group of players that I have worked closely with over the past seven years as we work towards our ultimate goal of winning a world championship," Joerger said. "I am 100 percent committed to leading the Grizzlies and I could not be more proud to call Memphis home."
