Gronkowski out for season with ACL tear

Foxboro, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.

An MRI confirmed the damage on Monday, according to NFL.com.

The Patriots orchestrated their third consecutive come-from-behind win, without the All-Pro on Sunday. Gronkowski was carted off the field in the third quarter of a wild 27-26 victory over Cleveland after catching a pass from Tom Brady up the seam before his right knee absorbed the brunt of a hit by defensive back T.J. Ward.

The Patriots were trailing 12-0 when Gronkowski got hurt.

Gronkowski, who will finish the 2013 season with 39 receptions for 592 yards and four touchdowns. also missed the first six games of the campaign while recovering from offseason back and forearm surgeries.
