Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward will
remain in a Columbus hospital for one more night and is expected to miss 3-
to-4 weeks after suffering a leg laceration in the team's loss to the Blue
Jackets on Saturday.
In a freak collision, Ward was cut on the left upper leg just below the groin
by Jackets forward Rick Nash's skate and received stitches for the injury. As
he skated off the ice, helped by Carolina staff, drops of blood could be seen
hitting the ice in a trail behind him.
Although Ward spent Saturday night in Riverside Methodist Hospital in Ohio's
capital city, he will be kept on Sunday to guard against infection.
Ward is expected to return to Raleigh on Monday where he will be evaluated by
Carolina's head orthopedic physician.
The 25-year-old is 2-9-3 with a 2.97 goals-against average this season. Backup
Michael Leighton will take over for Ward and the Hurricanes, who don't play
again until Wednesday when hosting the Los Angeles Kings.
