Fargo, ND ( - North Dakota State starting offensive lineman Zack Johnson will miss the 2014 season after undergoing knee surgery this week.

First-year Bison head coach Chris Klieman told the Inforum newspaper that Johnson underwent microfracture surgery and will be sidelined about four months. The 6-foot-4, 317-pound junior-to-be will use a medical redshirt instead of trying to return sometime in the latter half of the season.

Johnson, a left guard, was an All-Missouri Valley Football Conference second- team selection last season when North Dakota State won its third straight FCS national title.

His injury leaves Joe Haeg as the team's sole returning starter. Haeg will convert from right tackle to left tackle this season.
