Lake Forest, IL ( - Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman is optimistic that quarterback Jay Cutler will return Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Trestman said that Cutler will get one more workout before deciding on Thursday if he can play Sunday.

The news brings an end to the rumors that the Bears might stick with the hot hand in Josh McCown, who has thrown for 1,809 yards, 13 touchdowns and one interception in seven games (five starts) this year.

McCown was named the NFC offensive player of the week following his performance in Monday night's 45-28 win over the Dallas Cowboys. He threw four touchdown passes and added a score on the ground.

Cutler has missed the past four games with a high ankle sprain. He has thrown for 1,908 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight starts this season.

Trestman is not optimistic about linebacker Lance Briggs' status for Sunday. Briggs has missed the last six games with a fractured shoulder.

The 7-6 Bears are tied with the Detroit Lions for first place in the NFC North.
