When my daughter told me she wanted to be Rapunzel, I went out and looked at patterns.  I realized that none of the commercial patterns available actually looked like the dress in the movie, so I took a couple patterns I had that could work for a template, altered them dramatically, drafted a lot of the pattern myself, and came up with a (in my opinion) pretty good replica of the dress from the movie!  It has a lace-up over bodice with eyelets and puffed 3/4 sleeves over an under bodice that buttons up the back, then the panel skirt has top stitching on the front panel to replicate the movie dress as well as I could.  Add a long yellow braid and a frying pan, and my daughter is very happy with it.
